La Cocina Deidre

In 2008, I sought a way to combine my interest in cooking with my passion to help those in need and Pujols Kitchen was born. Created to honor God, Pujols Kitchen offers great Latin inspired cookware, provides authentic recipes, serves in global missions and shares inspiration from my heart and my kitchen.

For me, cooking is an expression of love and serving others. Whether it’s preparing a meal for family and friends in your kitchen; sharing your talents with others or donating cookware to those in need, there are all sorts of ways to love and serve others here at home and abroad. That’s why we’ve decided to make Pujols Kitchen’s online community a place for positive connections with people and to expand its mission on a global scale. Each month on the newly remodeled Pujols Kitchen website you’ll see recipes, inspiring messages and ideas for serving others in your immediate community and all around the globe.

I am excited about the redirection of Pujols Kitchen as I take it back to its original purpose of giving and missions. We will still offer great quality cookware for purchase online, but our main focus will be on the needs of those in challenging situations, both in the states and abroad, providing them with cookware and nonperishable food. I remember being inspired to create the cookware during a visit to one of the most remote villages in the Dominican Republic where cookware was such an important part of their existence. Knowing how important cookware was to them, and how important family meals are to creating a happy community, it is my dream to share this inspiration one family at a time, and end poverty all around the world.

And speaking of family meals, being a parent of 5 kids sometimes means 5 different requests for meals. Its a challenge to get one meal on the table let alone have time to serve a full restaurant menu. So I'm constantly looking for ways to get my kids involved in the kitchen. My oldest daughter, Bella, now nearly 18, has a passion for food. We've worked on helping her make healthy choices. I asked Bella, who has Down Syndrome, to help me teach other people with different abilities how to make good meals either with a toaster oven or a microwave. I will highlight a recipe twice a month straight from Bella's kitchen! Check out her Toaster Oven Tortilla Pizza.

Toaster Oven Tortilla Pizza

1.    Take ¼ cup marinara sauce and spread over a 10-inch whole-wheat tortilla

2.    Sprinkle one ounce reduced fat cheese on top and any of your favorite vegetables

3.    Heat up for approximately 5-8 minutes (or until cheese melts and tortilla is light brown)

4.    Slice and enjoy

Sometimes people just need a smile. God has blessed Albert and me and our family in so many ways. God has inspired me to serve. I just want to love on people and share the countless ways all of us can love and serve those in need. So I invite you into my kitchen where, together, we can share God’s love, serve others and make the world a better place one meal, one donation and one person at a time. Every one matters.
